Lost

by Omen-chan

Jun was near tears, and confused, feeling a great deal more miniscule than was likely in Japan, and horribly, irrevocably LOST. What could have possibly possessed him to offer to go out and pick up cigarettes for everybody in a new, unknown town?

He couldn't ask for directions, because, of course, no one would know the way to their van. He couldn't call anyone, because Aiji's cell phone's batteries had died, and no one else could afford one.

He was beginning to consider just bunking out on a park bench when it started to rain.

Perfect. This day just kept getting better and better.

Jun found a twenty-four hour store and went in. Maybe if the owner was nice, he could just stay there until the rain stopped.

Shaking his long red hair, flinging rain drops everywhere, he grinned shyly at the middle-aged man behind the counter.

Jun had made it halfway through the daily shonen manga, and was seriously considering picking up a shojo manga on the sly (boredom did strange things to the brain, and it wasn't as if Kirito would ever find out), when the door opened again.

Nose buried in a magazine, he didn't pay the slightest attention to the soft murmurs of conversation at the counter.

Kirito, unwittingly copying Jun's movements of an hour and a half earlier, shook his head to get the rain out, and grinned at the man behind the counter. However, Kirito certainly didn't get the same, friendly reaction. Maybe it was the grin.

The shop owner eyed the blonde, short, obviously delinquent young man in front of him suspiciously. The little adorable redhead of indeterminate gender had been one thing, but this one looked the type to snap any minute and blow up a little store with the innocent shopkeep still inside.

"May I help you, sir?" he asked, with the air of a man who would, without doubt or regret, do everything he could to avoid helping.

"Yes, actually. I'm looking for a young man, about my height. Maybe..." Kirito grimaced but plowed on, "Maybe an inch taller. Long red hair, kind of girly, really pretty, cheeks a little pudgy, gorgeous smile..." Kirito coughed and stopped. "Uh, and he was wearing black. No coat, like the moron he is. Have you seen him?"

The owner tilted his head. "Maybe. What would you want with this person?"

Kirito sighed. Honestly, every store employee he'd run across in the past hour had treated him like an escaped convict or something. Maybe he should stop dyeing his hair blonde? "He's my best friend. Went out to get five packs of cigarettes, and he probably got lost. Again. I haven't seen him outside, and I would like to think he'd have the common sense to find shelter, even if he doesn't have the common sense to bring a map with him. Or a coat."

Deciding to wash his hands of the whole affair, the store owner pointed to the back. "Last I checked, he was reading manga."

Kirito rolled his eyes. "Of course he was. Thanks."

Jun yawned as he finished yet another daily, and looked over the racks again. He was running out of things to read, and he couldn't think of what he would do when that happened. Run across to another store to read their manga selection? It was becoming a valid option, the more he thought of it.

He started to put the finished one back when he felt a tap on his shoulder. Whipping his head around, he couldn't control the grin and happy laugh as he threw himself on Kirito, knocking over half of a shelf's contents.

Blushing deeply, he bent down to start cleaning up, but still couldn't manage to wipe his grin off his face. "How'd you find me? Do you have some sort of tracking device?"

Kirito bent down next to Jun, helping him. "Don't be stupid. I've been out in this rain for an hour, going into every store between our van and here to see if you were in one of them. Why the hell did you come this far for cigarettes?"

"They didn't have your favorite brand."

Kirito wasn't sure whether to laugh or smack him. "I could have gotten by with something else until morning, stupid. Or didn't you see the rain clouds piling up out there?"

Jun finally finished cleaning and straightened up, feeling a little foolish. "Yeah, but... I was supposed to get everybody's cigarettes."

Standing also, Kirito reached over to ruffle Jun's hair and sighed. "Yeah, it's not all your fault, I guess. We should have known better than to send you into a strange town alone."

Shuffling shyly, Jun stuffed his hands in his pockets. "You weren't there. Wasn't your fault. Wasn't their fault either. They didn't ask; I offered."

Kirito decided to refrain from informing Jun that he had thoroughly "punished" their bandmates for accepting Jun's offer, once he'd found out about the whole affair. Jun would find out shortly anyway. Taking off his coat and scarf, he handed both to Jun and motioned for Jun to put them on.

Jun was having none of it. "Uh-uh. You'll catch your death. I can buy a jacket here and wear that till we get back to the van."

"It's no big deal, Jun. And it's not like you have any money on you anyway."

"I... I could ask really, really nicely?"

Chuckling, Kirito shook his head and helped Jun into the coat, buttoning it snuggly and wrapping the scarf around Jun's neck for him. "That even has a possibility of working. But really, Jun, it's okay. You were out for who knows how long in that weather without a coat, I can handle it for the walk back." He started pushing Jun to the door.

As they passed the shopkeep, they both grinned at him and gave him cheerful, carefree waves.

"Shinya? I'm cold. How much longer till we get to the van?"

"..."

"Shinya?" Somehow, when exposed to extreme temperatures, Jun's age seemed to regress ten years, and therefore managed to make Kirito's name sound both cutesy and endearing.

"Yes, Jun?" Apparently, when exposed to extreme temperatures (damn this horrible November weather anyway), Kirito seemed to say Jun's name as if it were the most exasperating, why-the-hell-do-I-love-you word in existence.

"We're lost, aren't we?"

"..."

"I'm right, aren't I?"

Kirito grumbled nonsensically.

"Well, there's a motel over there. Have you got any cash on you?"

Kirito dug through his pockets before he remembered that his wallet was in his coat, and then proceeded to dig through Jun's pockets. "Yeah."

"Can we stay there? I'm cold."

Kirito, none too warm himself, shrugged.

Jun beamed and, holding Kirito's hand, opened the door. This day just kept getting better and better, he thought cheerily.

Awwww.... I love Kirito's blush; I really do. ^^

*snuggles* You're welcome! For some reason, it's just really hard for me to write normal, old fashioned fluff. So much easier to write humor fics. *nodsnodsnods* So I'm really, really glad you like it. ♥

Awwww!! It really was fluffy and hilarious too. Especially the shopkeep being really, really cautious of Kirito. xDDD

Omen-chan, I seriously love you.
I've just told a friend of mine that VERY few people can write Kirito so that he looks like himself, I'm so glad you're one of them ^_________^
That was incredibly cute and lovely, please, do write more!!

Ah, darling, I love you too. ♥

Thank you! For me, that's just the greatest compliment. Writing Kirito is one of my great joys of life, and I love that you think his personality's right.

Of course I shall! When I get back, that is. *sighs* Eight weeks... *snuggles the Gloomy Bear*

lol
Thanks! I always feel so uncomfortable writing something fluffy. Humor's my strength, not melt in your mouth, cavity inducing fluff. XD
